‘The IPT Off-Lead Course’ teaches any dog 100% off-lead obedience under high distraction in fun, easy to follow steps. Training is broken down into 4 steps, one week apart with a 60-90 minute 1-2-1 training session in your home and local area from one of our expert trainers. You will then have a week to practice with your dog before the next step is introduced.
In the first step of the program, we teach the three main commands required for the off-lead training at zero distraction indoors (we don’t introduce the e-collar at this stage).
We ensure that your dog understands what we’re asking them to do before adding the language of the e-collar on top of these commands.
In step two we find out your dogs working level (the lowest level that your dog can feel a slight sensation). When we have the working level identified we move on to pairing the above commands with the working level. This is still done indoors at zero distraction and teaches the dog that the feeling of the working level is a good thing and means look at me, do as I ask, and a good thing is coming (food).
In this step we add the distraction of being outdoors to the language of the e-collar, gradually increasing the distraction levels. At this stage they will be on a long line which we will use to get the attention back to complete the.
Now that we have taught the new language to your dog in a fair and ethical way, it is fair to correct them when they decide to ignore us. The method used in this step will not only correct the wrong decision but reward the correct one. In the main this correction will only be needed once and the dog will understand that if they listen to the language they now are fluent in, it’s all good, meaning there is no need to use the correction.
* The e-collar unit used for this course is the ‘Mini Educator’ or a unit of equal quality.
The reason for this is that this collar allows the working level to be as low as possible, thus making the process fun and effective for the dog.
